Larry Osborn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Richards Funeral Home on Feb. 17, 2026.
Larry Pray Osborn of Pana, Ill died at the age of 91 at his home in Candor, NY on February 13, 2026. Larry left his family farm in Pana, Ill to come to Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City New York where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Education. Shortly thereafter Larry received his New York State Teacher Certification through Cortland State Teachers College he was briefly employed as an elementary school teacher in the Newark Valley Central School District. Realizing teaching was not the career path he wished to pursue, Larry was gainfully employed at several local businesses of the time. Owego Agway and Crown Industries were two of Larry's employers before he worked at Owego Heat Treat where he retired after 28 years of service. Following retirement, he returned to part time with Pete Premock Printing and Copying Services and The Green Thumb program for senior citizens. Larry had a strong work ethic and often earned the admiration of his employers and fellow employees. When Larry wasn't at his job, he could be found working around the house, helping a neighbor or simply enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, having fished throughout most of New York State and northern Pennsylvania. When it came to hunting, either small or big game, Larry was all in, and was a very good shot as well. He enjoyed old cars and was a good backyard mechanic. He could easily identify the make and model of a vehicle motoring down the roadway and reminisce about the earlier days detailing what would be today's antique cars. Larry had a strong faith and relationship with Jesus Christ as his Savior, which led him to attend seminary. He was an active member of several churches over the course of his life, contributing and helping where he could. Never one to seek the spotlight, he preferred to help behind the scenes. Larry would often help anyone in need, often changing a tire for someone on the road, helping someone whose vehicle broke down, or a neighbor in need. He lived his faith quietly but not privately. Larry was "salt and light", always willing to pray with someone and point them to Jesus. Larry also enjoyed singing having a good voice, having been a part of two gospel quartets over the years. Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Thomas) Osborn and their only son, Reverend Mark Osborn of Candor NY. He is predeceased by his parents, Otis Ray and Gladys (Pray) Osborn; four elder brothers, Robert, Forrest, Richard, and twin brother Barry. He is also survived by two sisters in law Gloria Osborn of San Diego CA, Mauricette Osborn of Hillsboro, IL and a brother-in-law Sam (Linda) Thomas of Vestal NY, formerly of Newark Valley along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was faithful husband and father. He was a man of few words, quiet in his demeanor, having much wisdom. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed by all.

In accordance with Larry's wishes, the graveside committal service will be held it Tioga Cemetery, Rte 17 C West, Owego, New York on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Contributions in Larry's name may be made to the Bridge of Hope Ministries, PO Box 541, Owego, New York 13827
