Larry E. Painter of North Chesterfield, Va., lost his battle with Alzheimer’s disease, passing away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2025, at the age of 68.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene “Fritz” and Lois Painter, and his sister, Linda. Larry is survived by his wife, Andi; her daughters and husbands, Anna & Justin and Aristie & Ben; his sister and her friend, Sandy & Freeman; Opie, his canine companion, as well as numerous cousins, friends, and his best buddy, Mike.
Larry grew up in Buchanan, Va., and graduated from James River High School in 1976. He became a “Hokie”, earning a bachelor’s degree in English from Virginia Tech. Later in his educational pursuit, Larry received a master’s degree in creative writing from Towson University.
Throughout his high school and college years, Larry worked during his summer break at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. He later moved to Maryland and landed a job in customer service with National Geographic Magazine.
His career history followed in information technology with the U.S. Coast Guard and as a technical writer with the Dept. of Veterans Assistance.
A few of Larry’s “favorite things” included travels with Andi, Marvel comics, graphic novels, UFO documentaries, and his many beloved dogs.
Larry also accomplished several “to-do’s” on his bucket list, with earning a black belt in Aikido as one of his proudest achievements.
To honor Larry’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
A “celebration and remembrance” gathering for family and close friends is planned for a later date.
