Larry Douglas Pentecost, age 82, of Southside Alabama, passed away in an accidental death on March 17, 2026. Born on March 27, 1943, Larry lived a full and meaningful life marked by devotion to family, a deep love for animals, and a strong work ethic that shaped every chapter of his journey.
Larry was proceeded in death by his parents, Olen and Irene Pentecost, and his stepmother, Vera Pentecost. From birth, he was lovingly raised by his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Pink Burgess, who's guidance and care shaped the man he became. He was also proceeded in death by his brothers and sisters, Mildred, Dot, Jessie, Marion, Collins, and Billy Sam. He is survived by his siblings, Marvin, Jean, and Sue, who carry forward the shared memories and bonds of a lifetime.
Larry was married for more than 30 years to Paulette Wallace Amos, the mother of his children, and they remained connected through the family they built together. He was later married to Gail Dobbs Pentecost, who proceeded him in death, and with whom he shared many years of partnership, laughter, and unwavering love.
He was a proud father to Terry L. Pentecost (Denise) and Michelle Kidd (Keith), and a proud grandfather, whose legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Adam (Sheila) Pentecost, Daniel (Amanda) Pentecost, Michael (Megan) Pentecost, Angel (Blake) Sewell, Kimberly (Kyle) Rochester, Britney (Jace) Lee, and Summer Kidd (JT). His legacy continues through 12 great grandchildren, each one carrying forward, his warmth, humor, and the stories he leaves behind.
Larry had a lifelong love for animals - especially his chickens, turkeys, finches, and most of all his treasured inside pups: Babe Girl, Bebee, and Bela-Ru. His home was always alive with the joy he found in caring for every creature that crossed his path.
He proudly served as a volunteer and reserve member of Etowah County Sheriffs Department, a role that reflected his deep respect for service and community. Larry held tremendous admiration for all area, police, fire, and emergency personnel, supporting them with gratitude and heartfelt appreciation.
Larry retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and later from a loan career as an over-the-road truck driver, traveling, countless miles and forming friendships across the country. His stories from the road and his dedication to hard work will be remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on March 27, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Southside, Alabama. Pastor Mike Drummond's of Bible Baptist Church will officiate the service.
Larry will be remembered for his devotion to family, his respect for others, and the love he poured into every life he touched. His memory will live on in the heart's of all who knew and loved him.
