Larry “Butch” Peterson, age 84, of Wolsey, passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Avantara Huron.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 18, at Kuhler Funeral Home. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed.
Larry Peterson was born June 28, 1941, to Philip and Edna (Christopherson) Peterson in Huron. He grew up here and attended Buchanan School until 1953, when the family moved to Wolsey. He graduated Wolsey High School in 1960, and went almost immediately to work as a fireman for the railroads. In November of 1963, he married Josephine “JoAnn” Delvaux in Huron at St. Martin’s Catholic Church. To this union, they had two children, Curt and Laurie.
He continued railroad work until he transitioned to a career at W. E. Bartholow and Son Construction (Now Asphalt Paving & Materials), working there for over forty years before retiring in 2002 to help his ailing wife battle cancer. After her passing, he kept himself busy by working with Midland Contracting on and off.
When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Fishing was a special pastime for Larry and Josephine, always going together as a team. He was also particularly proud of his two grandchildren, and loved spending time with the family.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his sister, Phyllis Schnoor; as well as his parent-in-laws, Laurence and Ursula Delvaux.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his children; Curt Peterson of Wolsey, and Laurie (Allen) Kramper of St. Charles, Iowa; his grandchildren, Hunter Peterson, and Joe Kramper; his sister Diane (the late Steve) Eichstadt; brother-in-law John (Rosemarie) Delvaux; sister-in-law, Virginia (Gary) Lobash; as well as many nieces and nephews.
