Larry Saxe Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 28, 2025.
Larry N. Saxe, 80, of Morrisonville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at his residence. He was born on May 2, 1945, in Olney, IL, to the late Lester and Susie (Harris) Saxe. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Dowdy, and they recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Larry graduated from Benton High School and later obtained a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from SIU Carbondale where he played baseball and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. After his studies, he started his career as a History Teacher. He then worked for 35 years as a Budget Analyst with the Attorney General and retired from the Secretary of State's office in 2007.

Larry was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Morrisonville, where he served his church in many ways. He served as a member and treasurer of the Morrisonville School Board for over 10 years. He was the trustee and plot manager of Thomas Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, and a former Bear Creek Community Club President. He loved sports and was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan his entire life. After retirement, he enjoyed serving the community as a sports announcer for the Morrisonville High School baseball and softball teams, along with Little League tournaments, leading to being awarded the Denny Daughtery Friend of Athletics Award. He enjoyed being a part of the Lakeshore Golf Course Senior Men's League, where he kept stats for the teams.

While Larry kept busy in his career and community, he cherished the time spent with his family most of all. He traveled thousands of miles attending activities, sports and other events for his kids and grandkids and his extended family.

He is survived by his loving wife: Sharon (Dowdy) Saxe of Morrisonville, IL; daughters: Laurie Deal of St. Peters, MO; Lisa Brockway of Chatham, IL; sons: David (Kim) Saxe of Palatine, IL; Chris (Angela) Saxe of Morrisonville, IL; grandchildren: Sharidan (Josh) Drake; Damery (Andrea) Deal; Brooklyn (Matthew) Mangold; Andrew, Ryan, Leah, Brennan, and Olivia Saxe; Alaina and Mason Brockway; Ella, Ava, and Tessa Saxe; great-grandchildren: Rosalie Drake, Harrison Deal and baby boy Mangold arriving in February; as well as his siblings: Tom Saxe and Elaine (Norman) Hayden.

Larry was welcomed into heaven by his parents: Lester and Susie Saxe; his stepmother: Marjorie Saxe; infant sister; Charlotte Saxe, baby brother; "Little" David Saxe; and his sister; Merilee Anderson, brother-in-law; Lindell Anderson, and sister-in-law; Susan Saxe.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the First United Methodist Church in Morrisonville with a memorial service to follow.

Memorials in his honor may be made to the Morrisonville Palmer Rescue Squad.
