Larry Schaffel, 92, beloved husband of Gloria nee Spear for 70 years; loving father of Lori (Andrew) Goldstein and Janice (Stuart) Kirschner; cherished Papa of Justin (Hali), Sami (Adam), Alex and Rachel, adored great grandfather of Zelle and Simon; many loving nieces and nephews. Larry lived a full life, starting in Winnipeg, meeting the love of his life at U of I, serving in the Navy, and working as a journalist, public relations director and business owner. He gave back to his communities as a school board president and as an active member of his local business association. Larry had a great sense of humor, enjoyed tennis, bridge, swimming and biking, and he was loved by all. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, dystonia-foundation.org or the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org. Chapel service, Monday 10 AM at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. Interment Shalom Memorial Park.
