Larry Schmoll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michaelson Funeral Home - Owatonna on Oct. 22, 2025.
Larry E. Schmoll, age 76, of Owatonna, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Cedar Lodge Assisted Living in Owatonna. He was born on November 30, 1948, in Goodhue County, Minnesota, to the late William E. and Martha T. (Ehrich) Schmoll. Larry grew up in Kenyon and was one of 16 children.
For most of his working career, Larry worked as a bus and long-distance truck driver. He loved the years he spent transporting the Norman Luboff Choir to their various performance venues. He also spent 25 to 30 years hauling catalysts to refineries across the US and Canada. His favorite part about his career was his experiences, as he visited the southern states to the Midwest, experiencing wide-open highways and the unpredictable weather that accompanied the climate. In 2010, Larry "retired" from truck driving and instead drove delivery trucks and tractor, often towing his own car behind so he always had a way to get around at his destination.
On May 20, 1967, Larry married Judy Peterson and together they had two daughters, Tammy and Shelly, before later divorcing. One of Larry's favorite family vacations was to the Black Hills. In his later years, Larry found joy in playing bingo, a game of solitaire on his phone, and listening to the music of his trucking years, 70's and 80's.
Larry is survived by his two daughters, Tammy (Jason Horsman) Schmoll of Owatonna and Shelly (Carl) Clark of Faribault; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; eight siblings: Irene (Chuck) Thomas of Owatonna, Clarence Schmoll of Houston, TX, David (Debra) Schmoll of Champlin, MN, Kathy (Jeff) Jacobson of Owatonna, Ruth (Marvin) Thompson of Owatonna, Dennis Schmoll of Owatonna, John Schmoll of Wickenburg, AZ, and Nancy Schmoll of Boise, ID; brother-in-law, Steve Schwering; sister-in-law, Bonnie Schmoll; former wife, Judy Schmoll; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Cindy Schmoll, Harriet Kessler, Roy Schmoll, Phillip Schmoll, Norma (Larry) Laue, Alice Schwering, and Bernice Norton.
