I got the honor of meeting Larry and Joan in 1993. They were looking for a new helper for yard work and odd jobs. I always dreamed of starting my own business. Still, I was looking for the first customer of my newly launched lawn business. I met with Larry and got the job. I had no idea how lucky I was that day.
Over the next twenty-plus years, I got to know Larry very well. Larry became a mentor to me. He would share his wisdom of business and life. Larry taught me how to do a lot of odd jobs, build a gazebo, innovate to make the task faster, or better, and fantastic business advice. He would tell jokes. When his friends would come over, they always liked to share Larry's stories. Larry used to always tease me for not being the greatest with North, South, East, and West directions. I just wanted a landmark. Well, one day, one of his friends told me about Larry getting lost in his own woods. To make sure he never lived it down, they got him a compass with a string on it. The sting was to be used at the starting point so he could just use the string to get back home. Even after I heard the story, it didn't stop Larry from teasing me about knowing my directions.
What I loved most about Larry was how much he cared. The passion he had for Joan, Steve, and Dotti. He would do anything for them. This is what I will miss most about Larry, how much he cared. The conversations with Larry is what I loved most. I always knew he cared and wanted to listen and help if he could. At the time I met Larry, I lost my grandpa. Larry may not have realized it, but he helped to fill the void when my grandpa passed away. Larry always felt like a grandpa to me. I will be forever grateful for Larry and the conversations, wisdom, help, and caring he brought to my life. I like to think that when I run into a problem or am not sure what the next step is. I have Larry and what I learned from him acting as a string to guide me back to where I need to be.
Thank you

Please accept my condolences. Though I only knew Larry briefly, I could tell he was a fine person. May sweet memories comfort you along with the thoughts and well-wishes of friends.ycx
