Larry Carlyle Slettom, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on November 14, 1944, in Little Falls, Minnesota, Larry lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, his craft, and his passions.

Larry graduated from Little Falls High School before continuing his education at machinery school in Staples. His strong work ethic and mechanical aptitude led him to a long and successful career as a machinist. He spent many years working for Sperry-Univac and later Northwest Airlines. Larry was married to the love of his life Donna on June 20th 1964 in Little Falls Minnesota. They moved to Chisago City where they raised their 4 children and eventually to their adored lake home in 1994.

Beyond his professional life, Larry was a man of many talents and interests. A gifted drummer, he played in a band with his best friend Doug-an experience that brought him great joy and lifelong memories. He had a deep love for music that extended into every part of his life, especially when dancing with his beloved wife Donna. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage-a bond built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Larry also loved spending time with his 8 beloved grandchildren and his two great grand daughters whom he adored. Every holiday all the family would gather at Larry and Donnas home creating lasting memories over the years.

Larry also had a passion for classic cars and took great pride in working on his cherished 1940 Ford Coupe. An avid fisherman, he found peace on the water and treasured the quiet moments spent casting a line. His love for animals was evident in the special bond he shared with his dogs over the years, especially Tobie who remained faithfully by his side.

Larry's kindness and big heart touched everyone who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife Donna; children Denise Slettom, Dawn Slettom, Chris (Laurie) Slettom, and Angie (Jim) Eley; siblings Conrad (Barb) Slettom, Joyce Slettom, and Mary Jean Hylden; grandchildren Jason Sorenson, Katelyn (Jake) Kalkbrenner, James (Shawna) Byland, Bradley (Hope) Eley, Molly (Josh) Eley, Haley Vanderwerff, Kylee Slettom, Austin Slettom; two great-granddaughters Lilah Kalkbrenner and Bridget Eley; and his loyal dog Tobie.

He was preceded in death by his parents Romane and Adolph Slettom.

May Larry's memory bring comfort to those who loved him and serve as a reminder of a life well lived.

Yesterday

I remember Larry well as I grew up on the block where he grew up, right across the alley from me. There were actually 5 of us, next door and across the alley from each other, David, Larry, Diane, Betty and me. We seemed close in our own way. It brings back memories. I was saddened to hear of his passing. He lived a great life.
