Larry Leon Smith died on Sept. 4, 2025, at his home in South Haven, with his family by his side.
A celebration of life for Larry will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at the American Legion, 129 Michigan Ave., South Haven.
Larry was born on June 12, 1947, in South Haven. He graduated from LC Mohr High School in 1965. He started working for Niffs in high school, until he was drafted to the U.S. Army in 1966 and discharged in 1972. He worked at the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in the mechanical maintenance department for 38 years until his retirement.
He married his first wife, Patricia, who passed away in January 1988 and later met and married Wanda (Kopinski) Smith on June 2, 1990. Larry was a member of the South Haven American Legion, as well as the VFW, Moose and Elks Lodge. Larry enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends, his many vehicles from his TransAm to his trucks, along with golfing, watching football and other sports. Larry will be dearly missed.
Larry is survived by his wife, Wanda; his stepson, Reese (Angela) Schoenwether and granddaughter, Taylor; his niece/daughter, Nina (James) Davis and niece, Vicki (Russell) Smith; two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Aron and Ruby Smith; his first wife, Patricia; his brother, Donald Smith and nephew, Russell Smith.
