Larry N. Squires

Larry N. Squires, age 67, of Chesterville, passed away early Friday morning, September 18, 2026, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.

On August 8, 1959, Larry was born in Mount Gilead, Ohio, the son of Linda L. (Killen) Squires and the late Neil H. Squires. He graduated from Highland High School with the Class of 1977, where he was a talented three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He was also an active member of FFA, where he earned numerous awards in judging. Larry's accomplishments as a Highland student athlete were recognized years later when he was inducted into the Highland High School Hall of Fame in 2012. Following high school, Larry attended Mount Union College for a year, where he continued his love of baseball and lettered as a freshman pitcher.

On November 10, 1984, Larry married the love of his life, Pamela Jane "Pam" Swihart at Palmyra Church of Christ. Together, they have shared the last 41 years as husband and wife.

Larry was a hard-working man who took pride in providing for his family. As a young man, he spent several years working for LPP Paving before beginning a 19-year career as a Morrow County Highway Worker. He retired in 2025. Larry also served his community for several years as a Chester Township Trustee.

An outdoorsman at heart, Larry was happiest when he was outside. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, trapping, fishing, and wandering through the woods mushroom hunting. Larry especially cherished the years he spent coaching little league and travel baseball for his son, Lincoln. After Lincoln's passing, Larry found comfort in raising cattle on his mother's land, giving him a place to work with his hands and spend time outdoors while carrying his son's memory with him.

Above all else, family was the center of Larry's life. He was especially devoted to his only grandchild, his beloved granddaughter, Savannah. The two shared a truly special bond. Larry was her mentor and encourager particularly when it came to sports. The time they shared was precious to him.

Larry was a thinker and a listener. He was not one to speak simply for the sake of speaking; he took the time to think things through before offering his thoughts. He was a man who made lists for everything and could be counted on to get things done. Kind, dependable, and exceptionally hardworking, Larry possessed a quiet strength. He was known for his strong hands, his willingness to help, and a genuine nature that made him easy to like. Larry was simply a good man.

Left to cherish Larry's memory are his wife, Pam Squires; his daughter, Brooke Squires; his beloved granddaughter, Savannah Squires; his mother, Linda Squires; his siblings, Jon (Debra) Squires, Shirley (Joe) Porter, Kevin (Kellie) Squires and Kathy (Gregg) Belcher; numerous nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Joyce and David Swihart; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Doug (Tammy) Swihart, Becky (Shann) Bocock and Darrell Swihart.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Lincoln Neil Squires; his sister, H. Marie Hamilton; and his sister-in-law, Wendy Swihart.

Larry's family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Christ the King Community Church, 15598 McClelland Rd., Fredericktown, OH 43019. A funeral service to honor and celebrate his life will take place there at 5 p.m., with Rev. Dr. Lucian Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
