Larry Eugene Thurman, 85, of Galesburg, died at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Allure of Lake Storey.

He was born August 14, 1940, in Avon, Illinois, the son of Edward Max and Idella Marie (Hoadley) Thurman.

He is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Terry Laverne Thurman, Barbara Ann Surr, and Joyce Elaine Brown; niece, Tracey Lynn Thurman; and nephew, Timothy Wayne Palmer.

Larry worked for Maytag for 32 ½ years before retiring. He was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. He was a devoted, active member of First Christian Church, where he served as Deacon and enjoyed Bible study. Larry was a member of the National and Knox County Genealogical Societies. Locally, he worked tirelessly indexing obituaries for the Galesburg Public Library and future genealogists over the past 20 plus years.

Larry enjoyed golfing and fishing, but spending time with his family was of utmost importance.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Graveside service with Military Honors will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2026, in the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or the Knox County Genealogical Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services is honored to serve the family.
