Larry Thurston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home & Crematory Services, Pittsfield on Feb. 4, 2026.
PITTSFIELD-Larry W. Thurston, 67, died peacefully surrounded by his family on February 2, 2026, at his home in Pittsfield.

He was born on September 12, 1958, in Portland, Maine, a son of Delbert and Katherine (DeWitt) Thurston Sr. He was a woodsman by trade and enjoyed woodworking, making benches and picnic tables with his wife and best friend, Jr.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and waving at silhouettes as he drove by. He could be stubborn, but he was social and made friends easily. He liked all animals and loved his grandkids and enjoyed the times he spent with them; they lovingly called him Pop Pop and Papa. He was a past volunteer for the Detroit Fire Department, policing and directing traffic.

He is survived by his wife, Becky Thurston; 3 children: Lori Menser and husband Mark, Kathy Stevens, and Jeremy Thurston and wife Sonja; 3 grandkids: Elizabeth, Deshawn, and Autumn; siblings: Kenny and wife Tina, Harold and wife Jamie, Katherine, Marie and husband Lawrence, and Irene; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Ramon Rosario "Jr" and wife Tammy May.

He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings: Delbert Jr, Evelyn, and Barbara.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Manson Park, Crosby Street, Pittsfield. If by chance it is raining, we will gather at the Elks Lodge, Middle Street, Pittsfield.
