Larry Lee Turner was born on Aug, 15, 1948, in Dallas County, Mo., to Billie Joe and June (Pitts) Turner. He passed away on Nov. 9, 2025, in
Buffalo, Mo., surrounded by his children, grandchildren and brother Billie Wayne Turner. He was 77 years old. Larry attended school in the Dallas County area, including several one-room schoolhouses. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1966. On March 9, 1968, he was united in marriage to Lanna June Hoover, and to this union four children were born. Larry worked hard all of his life. He was quick to tell stories of plowing fields, harvesting crops and caring for livestock as a young boy. As he grew up, Larry continued to work on the family's farm and worked for many other farmers in the area. That work ethic carried him into an adulthood. Larry worked for many years hauling hay, back when it was all square bales, and cattle. He eventually went to work for the Dallas County Farmer's Exchange in Buffalo, where he did everything from running the hammer mill to bagging and delivering feed. It didn't take long for Larry to be moved to the front counter, where he helped farmers and ranchers for more than three decades. He was a cattleman his whole life. Larry enjoyed seeing new calves grow and thrive. Even in the worst of weather, Larry could be found checking his herds on various farms he owned and rented. Later in life, Larry returned to his boyhood roots with a team of mules he raised and other teams, even undertaking a multi-day journey with some of this fellow drivers several years ago. Larry was a devoted and proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was quick to brag on all of his kids for their accomplishments and milestones reached. He served on the boards of the Dallas County Farm Bureau and the Dallas County Cattlemen's Association for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Dallas County Fair and Junior Livestock Show board, and served as the swine chairman for many years. Larry's support of the fair and young livestock exhibitors continued after leaving the board. He could be found on the front row each year buying animals and providing added money to the young exhibitors. Larry was saved and baptized at a young age. He later became a member at the Mt. Pleasant Southern Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Larry is preceded in death by his wife Lanna, infant daughter Angela, his parents, sister-in-law Connie Turner, sister Patsy Duskin and husband Melton Duskin, and close cousin Carl Turner.
