Larry Miller Watkins

August 17, 1938 – November 9, 2025

Larry Miller Watkins, 87, of Cumming, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025.

Born on August 17, 1938, in Atlanta, Larry was the son of Hugh and Margaret Watkins. He grew up in Forsyth, Georgia — a place he remembered fondly for its wide-open land, deep family roots, and where he learned the value of hard work, good humor, and a well-timed joke. Lessons he carried with him throughout his life.

After serving in the U.S. Army and later the Army Reserves, Larry built a successful career as an accountant and Vice President of Finance and Operations. Behind the professional title, though, was a man who believed in doing things well, treating people fairly, and finding moments of laughter even on the hardest days.

Larry married the love of his life, Gwyn Allbritten, and together they shared 36 years filled with partnership, friendship, and a healthy dose of playful sarcasm. Their life was full of family, friends, fun, and love — the things that mattered most to him. He fiercely loved his sons, David, Philip, and Robert, and his stepchildren, Johnny, Ken, and Kristie. That love only grew with his grandchildren, Greg, Steven, Davida, Dawn, and Jasmine, and his great-granddaughter, Anna Clair.

He was a lifelong Georgia sports fan, faithfully cheering on the Braves, the Dawgs, the Jackets, and even the Falcons — no matter how many times they broke his heart. He celebrated the Braves’ two World Series wins and UGA’s three National Championships. As for the Falcons… well, he’d have plenty to say about that.

Larry enjoyed many things, but golf became an obsession later in life. While he never took the game too seriously, it gave him and Gwyn countless opportunities to travel with friends — or simply get out for “a good walk spoiled.” Though he wasn’t able to play in recent years, he found joy in quiet mornings on the back porch, swapping stories with family and friends, and sharing life with his faithful dog, Tripp, his constant companion and partner-in-crime for the past decade.

Larry will be remembered for his quick wit, easy smile, and the way he could make people laugh when they needed it most. He had a big heart wrapped in humor — a teddy bear of a man who cared deeply, loved freely, and never missed an opportunity to lighten the moment.

He is survived by his children David and Maria Watkins and Robert Watkins; stepchildren John and Kathy McCollister, Ken and Stacey McCollister, and Kristie McCollister; grandchildren Greg and Melissa Watkins, Steven and Courtney Watkins, Davida Watkins, Jasmine McCollister, and Dawn Lasusky; great-granddaughter Anna Clair Painter; brothers Jerry Watkins and Billy Watkins; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Margaret Watkins; his brother, Charles Watkins; his son, Philip Watkins; and his wife, Gwyn A. Watkins.

A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on Sunday, November 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m.
