Mr. Larry Edward Welch, Sr., 78, of Hagerstown, known to many as "Loop Loop", died Friday morning, January 26, 2024, at Doey's House, Hospice of Washington County, Hagerstown.
Born January 2, 1946, he was a son of the late Raymond Ellsworth, Sr., and Hazel Louise Fogle Welch.
Earlier in his life, Larry worked with various area construction companies. Later, he used his building abilities as a handy man for hire.
He was a Christian by faith.
Larry had served as a volunteer with the Washington County Commission on Aging. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son; collecting clocks, watches and knives; gardening; and cooking and baking with his son. While his son would often handle the baking for a dinner, Larry would conjure some delicious casseroles to provide a wonderful meal. A specialty he enjoyed making and sharing was extra spicy venison jerky.
Surviving are his children Crystal Welch of Hagerstown, Larry E. Welch, Jr., and wife Celia of Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania and Kim Hull of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Tara and Kayla Welch; and nine great grandchildren; as well as a brother Raymond E. "Buddy" Welch, Jr.; friend Quinn McAllister of Hagerstown; and a niece and several nephews.
Besides his parents, Larry is preceded in death by siblings Linda Campbell and David Welch.
Private services are being handled by Andrew K. Coffman Funeral Home, Hagerstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Welch's name to benefit Doey's House and sent in care of Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740.
