Larry Gene Wilkerson was born in Lovell, Wyoming on June 19, 1949, the first of twin boys, to Gene and Ethel (Williams) Wilkerson. It was an extra special day as it was Father’s Day. Larry met his heavenly father on October 13, 2025 following a short illness at Campbell County Health surrounded by his family and friends.

Larry graduated in 1969 from Campbell County High School. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in October 1969. Larry completed a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. Larry served two years in the Marine Corps, four years in the Marine Corps Reserves, followed by 19 years in the Wyoming National Guard. Larry retired from military duty on April 17, 2000 with an honorable discharge. Larry earned numerous awards, medals and ribbons including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7756.

Larry married Linda Gerig on June 23, 1973 in Gillette, Wyoming. Three children were born to this union (Toni, Lonnie and Cole). Larry worked in electrical wholesale for Gifford Electric and Crum Electric for thirty years.

Larry was an avid hunter of elk, deer, pheasant, and a skilled fisherman. He greatly cherished spending time and hunting at the Wilkerson Family Cabin near Yellowstone. In his younger years, he was in bowling leagues at Camel Lanes for 20 years and the Rec Center softball and basketball teams. He enjoyed watching all sports from local to national, especially football, basketball, baseball and car races. As well as attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. After his retirement, Larry enjoyed spending his days at the Campbell County Senior Center and Campbell County Rec Center. In his final days, Larry expressed he had a wonderful marriage and great life, and was very thankful for all of his family, friends and loyal dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Linda Wilkerson, daughter Toni Merritt, son Cole (Wendy) Wilkerson, grandchildren: Casey (Alexa) Merritt, Andrew Merritt, Connor (Alyssa) Wilkerson, Hailey Wilkerson, Maddox Wilkerson. Great-grandchildren: Brooks Merritt and Esme Merrit. Siblings: Robert (Renee) Wilkerson, Richard (Peg) Wilkerson, twin brother Terry (Janie) Wilkerson, Linda (John) Schroer, and Diane (Bill) Maki and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. Longtime Friends: Ernest Blohm and Tom (Judy) Buechler.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, son Lonnie Wilkerson and grandson Austin Wilkerson.

Memorial Services will be October 21, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel with luncheon to follow at Mt. Pisgah Community Room.
