Lashay Veralisa "Shay" White

Lashay Veralisa White, lovingly known as "Shay," was born on February 6, 1976, in Nassawadox, Virginia, to Vernell and William White. On May 9, 2025, she was called to her eternal rest at the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia. God saw her getting tired and whispered, "Come with me, my child."
At an early age, she was baptized and became a member of First Baptist Church in Mappsville, Virginia. Shay was educated in the Accomack County Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Arcadia High School.
Growing up in Mappsville, Virginia, she developed friendships that would last a lifetime. Always willing to help anyone, she had a natural gift for taking care of others.
Shay had been a faithful dialysis patient, hardly ever missing a day. She had a devoted schedule and took time out to rest.
She was a great cook! Thanksgiving dinner was always over the top. She cooked all kinds of meats, veggies, and sides. But you were guaranteed sweet potato pie!
Shay left us all way too soon, but her strength, kindness, and love will never be forgotten. She was an amazing mother to her son, a loving and caring daughter, a proud sister, a fun auntie to her nieces and nephews, a godmother, and an inspiring friend.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Delollie Downing, Herbert Trader, and Garfield Byrd; and paternal grandparents, Janie White (great-grandmother), Lillian White Butts, and Clarence Butts.
Shay leaves such fond memories with her mother, Vernell D. White; father, William White (Lorraine); son, Keyoke White; sister, Vernicia Davis; aunts, Coletta White, Claudia Trader, Donna "Cathy" Trader, and Jewell Burgess; aunts, Christine Snell, Doris Hack, Linda Matthews, Syrene Washington, Pamela Warner, and Shirleen Addison (Charlie); great aunts, Frances White (George) and Mae Helen Smith; uncles, Antonio Downing (Audran), Alonzo Darnell Broadwater, and Jimmy Lee White (Diane); great uncle, Sylvester Savage; niece, Shanice Davis; nephews, Markeith Davis and Markeece Davis; several great-nieces and nephews; godmother, Margo Tyler; goddaughter, Trinity Watson; best friends, Elizabeth "Poochie" Strand and Nicole "Neet" Strand; bonus sisters, Kathy, Towyna, Mekesha, and Cassie; bonus grandmother, Bertha Lee Wilson; cousin just like an auntie, Sherry Mayes; and a host of other cousins, family, and friends.
We will forever miss her physical presence beyond words. But her spirit, her love, her lessons, and her legacy - will continue to live on in every one of us always.
