Laura Ann Benson, age 76, of Dodgeville, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 26, 2023. She passed following a several year battle with emphysema, COPD, and end stages of lung disease brought to a close by her third round of Covid.
Laura was born in St Joseph's hospital in Dodgeville on July 14, 1947 to Richard and Anna (Butteris) Carley. Laura grew up in Iowa County and graduated from Mineral Point High School in 1965. She was married on August 10, 1990 to Dennis M Benson Sr. at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville. She held several service industry and factory jobs with her favorites being an independent contractor for the Wisconsin State Journal and a crossing guard for the Dodgeville School District.
Laura was known for her unrelentless faith and dedication to Christ that followed a life of farming, biker parties, and some activities that maybe she shared her wisdom on so her children would not repeat (like sneaking out and spending her lunch money on coca-cola and cigarettes). She was one of the most caring individuals you would ever meet and constantly prayed for others and had personal connections with so many people too numerous to count.
Laura enjoyed spending time with her family (especially the grandchildren). She enjoyed baking, painting ceramics, horseback and motorcycle riding in her younger years, doing puzzles and word searches, watching wheel of fortune, her paint by number pictures on her tablet and being "mom's taxi."
Laura was preceded in death by her grandparents Wilbur and Gladys Butteris, father and step-mother Richard and Joyce Carley, step-father Robert Lynch, father and mother-in-law Richard and Alice Weygant, Sisters Sandy Luxton and Sherrie Biser, ex-husband John Clauer, son David Clauer and granddaughter Kaylee Schroeder and 2 brothers. She is survived by her husband: Dennis M Benson Sr.; mother: Anna A Lynch; sisters: Sue (Roger) Dickinson, Mary (Bruce) Lease, Linda Long, Patricia Lynch; brothers: Rich Carley, Roy Lynch; children: Jaclyn Hauser, Daniel (Hollis Books) Clauer, Dennis M Benson Jr., Crystal Benson, Joshua Clauer, Sara (Kenny) McCluskey; as well as 26 grand-children and 5 great-grandchildren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many "adopted" children and grandchildren.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral home in Dodgeville. Funeral service will follow at 6:00 P.M with burial to be conducted at a later date. The Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home, Dodgeville, is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.houckfuneralhomes.com.
The family would like to than Agrace staff and her doctor, Dr. Mullin, for all of their wonderful care.
