She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. Proverbs 31:25-26.
A virtuous woman she was.
Laura graduated from Howard High School and later attended Delaware Technical Community College where she majored in business communication. She went on to further her education and graduated with honors from Delaware State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in education. Upon completion, she enjoyed teaching English for 30 years, retiring from the Christina School District. She loved interacting with the students and found pleasure in seeing them mature and was delighted in seeing them learn. It was very rewarding to her. In addition, Laura was an aide for the Head Start Program and a paraprofessional reading aide at Elbert School. In her earlier years, she held several clerical positions; which included the Gulf Oil Company and the Legal Aid Society with Representative Jim Baker.
Laura absolutely loved God with all her heart, soul, mind and strength. She was ecstatic about her personal, intimate relationship with Jesus. She loved spending time with God. Always worshipping him, by listening to and reading the word, praising and thinking about him and praying without ceasing. She was passionate about consistently walking and talking to him, planting seeds, mentoring by edifying and lifting up people by encouraging them to put their faith and trust in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was fond about fellowshipping about the goodness of God, it was one of her favorite pass times. Her life was devoted to God as she was completely committed and submitted to him.
Laura attended Victory Christian Fellowship, Faith City Family Church and Seeds of Greatness Bible Church.
Laura who was also affectionately called "Mom" and "Mum- mum -mum"; shared an undeniably special bond with her "Baby Girl" Lauren, great grand-daughter India, whom she named Indi Pooh and her daughter, Tanya- who all lovingly and graciously stepped into the role of caregivers for her, making sure Mom was comforted and did not face any challenges alone. Laura also had a divine spiritual connection with her dear friend, AnRea, with whom she deeply adored.
In Laura's pastime, she liked learning about the latest technologies, such as how to work Alexa, FaceTime or take pictures with Snapchat filters. She binged watched all the Little Women series and Pop the Balloon, while snacking on her favorites, such as Werther's original candy, Double Mint gum and Breyer's Cherry Vanilla ice cream. She enjoyed conversations and time spent with Tanya (Nanni), Sharon (Shimmy) and Eric (Ricky) and receiving sweet pictures of his granddaughter and sons, as well as reminiscing about times spent with her mother, siblings, cousins and family gatherings.
Laura will be remembered for her grace, style and beauty. She loved to shop and had an eye for design and fashion; always having that special touch to make things look beautiful. She took pride in dressing the nines and making sure her children were a reflection of that when they were coming up. Mom was smart, full of wisdom and was apologetically her. One of her sayings was "let it go and roll like water off a ducks back". Mom also liked to "people watch" and had great discernment of people's spirit. She would know right away who walked with God and who did not. She always appreciated a sweet and gentle spirit.
