Laura "Jean" Ellingsen, a lifelong resident of San Francisco, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in San Francisco on October 1, 1940, she dedicated her life to education and the pursuit of knowledge. Jean earned her Master of Education degree from San Francisco State University and spent her career sharing her expertise and commitment to learning with generations of students. Outside of her professional life, Jean maintained a deep appreciation for her community and surroundings. She took pride in her garden, participated actively in the San Francisco Garden Club, and was a familiar presence at local dog parks with her beloved German Shepherds. She also enjoyed traveling extensively, returning home with new perspectives and experiences that reflected her enduring intellectual curiosity. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Einar and Mary Ellingsen. Jean is survived by her devoted partner, Ferenc Foti. She is also survived by her brother, John, and his wife, Paula. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on November 19, 2025, at Corpus Christi Church, 62 Santa Rosa Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94112.
