Laura Mayers Obituary

Laura Ann Mayers, age 62, Consecrated Woman of Regnum Christi, was born in Cheyanne, Wyoming, on February 13, 1963. On December 28, 2025 at 6 p.m., she passed away in the community of Consecrated Women in Washington DC, after battling cancer since September of 2023.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 9. 2026 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Daniel Walz officiating and Rev. Walter Schu, L.C. and Rev. Charles Sikorsky, L.C. concelebrating. Inurnment was in the parish cemetery.

Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church in New Munich. Parish prayers were at 4 p.m. followed by a rosary at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the church.

Laura graduated from Conrad High School in 1981. She continued her education with a masters degree in Education of the Deaf and teaching for nine years at the Omaha Hearing School. Laura responded to God's call within Regnum Christi and was consecrated on August 22, 1996 in Warwick, Rhode Island with her final vows on August 30, 1998.

Over the course of nearly three decades, Laura served in multiple communities and countries, including the United States, Mexico, and Ireland. She lived in Greenville, Rhode Island, for many years teaching and working in academics in the North American Formation Center, guiding newly Consecrated Women. In 2016, Laura began to serve at Divine Mercy University (DMU) in Virginia, and to pastorally support the Regnum Christi locality of Washington DC. She contributed in many significant ways to the establishment of the School of Counseling and the DMU Global Campus. Laura served as a teacher and professor at the formation center and pre-candidacy, and as an academic assistant at DMU.

Laura was a "life-long learner" who had a natural capacity and desire to share that learning with others with great understanding and patience. Her extensive studies in education, theology, and psychology impelled her to teach the faith in a variety of settings - with her own consecrated sisters, and in different parishes where she lived.

Those who knew Laura remember her as thoughtful, faithful, open to others and quietly generous. She was a hard worker who made work fun for others. She loved reading books and poetry, playing Scrabble, cooking, enjoying nature - especially the mountains and the ocean, and making things beautiful. She had a special place in her heart for her dog Emma who faithfully accompanied her the last 12 years of her life.

Survivors include her parents, Raymond and FloriAnn Mayers of New Munich; brothers and sister, Stephen (Kathleen) Mayers of Sun City West, Arizona, Wanda (Bruce) Rathie of Billings, Montana, Jeff (Barbie) Mayers of Valier, Montana, and David (Julie) Mayers of Highpoint, North Carolina; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Laura was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

Laura´s love for the Lord, quiet presence, steadfastness, loyalty, and nobility of heart made her a safe place to rest. Serving alongside her at MEC (our formation center-college in Rhode Island) in academics and administration she brought peace and order to an intense high stakes environment while we were getting accredited.
Her simple words and presence often brought me back to the essential. Our Lord and his plan.
Laura I´ll miss the visits to the tree house and walks, the deep reflections you offered. Thank you for your silent suffering-I know more than I can imagine in the years of health issues. Your quiet service your perseverance in the midst of facing death. You brought light and joy to my heart on so many occasions. May you remember us as we journey towards the reward that is yours- good and faithful servant! Deb B
