It is with profound respect and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Laurel Amond Haney on June 20, 2025. Born on April 11, 1930, in Iron Mountain, MI, USA, Laurel, spent his formative years in Hawkins, Wisconsin. He graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI and went on to get a Bachelors of Science degree in Education from University of Wisconsin. He was a huge badger fan!!
He was involved with ROTC at the University of Wisconsin and went on to join the Army after college in 1954, and remained in the army until 1956. He married Patricia Snyder in 1954 and they raised 3 boys, Herb, Steve, and Kevin in Barrington Hills, IL. Laurel worked in the banking industry and owned his own business for 15 years.
His marriage with Patricia ended in 1979 and he married Nancy Eckroad in 1981. Remaining in the Round Beach, IL area. At the passing of his wife Nancy in early 2024 he moved into an assisted living facility in the Knoxville, TN area to be close to his youngest son Kevin and his wife Wendy.
Laurel had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life that was infectious. His early years were filled with thrill and excitement as he embraced the snowy slopes, skiing and ski jumping with his family. His love for nature also extended to horse riding and showing horses. He was an accomplished storyteller, weaving tales that captivated the hearts and minds of those around him. His days spent fox hunting were testament to his bravery and adventurous spirit.
Laurel is survived by his sons, Kevin (Wendy) Haney, Loudon, TN, Steve (Kathleen) Haney, Grand Junction, CO and his granddaughter Samantha (Hazel) Press, Madson, WI. He was preceded in death by his father, Amond Haney, his mother, Viola Haney, his sisters, LaVonne Siciensky, Verda Begley, brother, Wayne Haney, and his second wife, Nancy Eckroad-Haney. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 9:00am to 11:00 a.m. CDT at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. This will be followed by a graveside service at 11:00am CDT at the Forest Hill Cemetery, 631 Spring Street, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
Laurel's life was a testament to his strength, resilience, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We invite everyone who shared in Laurel's journey to leave their memories and upload photos to the memorial page, celebrating his life and the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
