Publish in a newspaper

Laurence David Brightenfield Sr., 78, of Farmington, NY passed away on October 6th 2025.

Laurence was born on December 8th 1946 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Leo Brightenfield and Violet Schultz.

Survived by his brother Ronald Brightenfield and children Laurence Brightenfield Jr. (McKenzie Brightenfield), Jim Brightenfield (Lisa Brightenfield), Paul Brightenfield (Shannon Brightenfield), Michelle Madison, Mark Brightenfield, Samantha Colf (Ryan Colf) and Amanda Hanks. Larry is a grandfather and great-grandfather of many.

Larry grew up on a small farm in Buffalo, NY and lived a beautiful and vibrant life. He was someone who was always learning. He could fix anything. Loved by everyone, there is not an individual that has met Larry that did not like him instantly. He had so many hobbies, sailing, biking, flying kites, building campfires and always loved a good Black and Tan.

Larry, a Vietnam Veteran, joined the Army in 1968, and served until honorably discharged in 1970. He served as a Radar Repairer and maintained essential on-the-ground radar equipment.

Larry was an avid Amateur Radio Enthusiast (W2LB previously WA2ROW) and a well-known Elmer in the Amateur Radio community. He loved to chat on the air and operate Morse code making contacts all across the globe. Having received his amateur radio license as a young boy, he has had many years to expand his knowledge of the hobby and was always ready and willing to help other amateur radio operators whether it be troubleshooting equipment, designing or launching antennas, or just spreading general knowledge of the hobby to the rest of the community. Larry had a wealth of knowledge and was a tremendous resource to the amateur radio community. He loved being social and participating with the various amateur radio clubs, groups, events, and Ham Fests in the Rochester area putting faces to the names of all the people he has talked to on the air. In recent years you could often find him chatting it up on the 2 meter repeater located on Bristol Mountain and also participating in various gatherings and events with the Roc City Net, RDXA, RARA and various other groups in the Rochester area.

Larry gained a tremendous amount of experience from the various positions he held over the years. Some positions include an Electrical Draftsman that designed and drafted electrical wiring diagrams and schematics for an industrial machine washing company. He had his own electronic organ repair business, L & L Lektronix. Worked at Eastman Kodak Company for 30 years, and worked at the University of Rochester for 22 years as a Program Analyst in the Radiation Oncology department.

Larry was the greatest father anyone could ask for; always positive and upbeat. He was kind, generous and always respectful. He would give you the shirt off his back.

Dad – There are no words to express how deeply you will be missed. You were the rock in our family. There will not be a day that goes by that we will not miss you. Thank you for your love.
