Laurence “Larry” Dwight Pollett, cherished husband, father, brother, and friend peacefully passed away on December 3, 2024, in Independence, Kansas, at the age of 77. Born on July 14, 1947, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Laurence led a life rich in service, love, and dedication to his family community. He married his first wife, Betty (Simmons) Hicks, in August of 1970 and had two children.
During his life, Laurence traveled extensively while working with Taylor Crane and Rigging. A proud veteran, he served in the United States Army and was deployed during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty and commitment. He was known for his caring nature and his desire to help others, qualities that were admirable to all who knew him. Laurence had a remarkable talent for fixing things and took joy in working on cars, often sharing this passion with those he loved.
He is survived by his devoted wife Nancy and his beloved children: son Laurence Lee Pollett and daughter Mellisa Marie Durant. Mellisa's children, Dalton and Micheal Durant, along with stepson Chris Catron and his wife Frances, and their children Garrett and Tara. Stepson Denny and Monica Catron, along with their children Kayla Perry, Aaron Dix, and Chantal Catron. He also leaves behind his brother Darrell Pollett, sister Pam Cone, his 13 great-grandchildren and cherished several nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
Laurence is preceded in death by his father Laurence Dwight Pollett, mother Betty Helen Brown, and brothers Richard Ray Pollett, affectionately known as "Dickie," and Randall Scott Pollett, lovingly known as "Randy."
Laurence Dwight Pollett's legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering support will remain in the hearts of those who loved him. His ability to fix what was broken, both in terms of tangible objects and within familial bonds, has created a lasting impact that will be remembered fondly by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
There will be a private family gathering at a later time.
