Laurette Wilson-McAuley Obituary

Laurette Wilson-McAuley
09/12/1960 - 11/05/2025
Laurette Wilson McAuley, through God's loving care, entered into the presence of the Lord at her home on November 5, 2025.
She was born on September 12, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to James Weldon Williams Jr. and Laureta Williams Cuny. She graduated from Humble High School in 1979 and later attended the University of Houston.
A lifelong Houstonian and avid gardener, Laurette transformed her passion into a thriving full-time business, Gardeners for Hire. Throughout her 25-plus-year career as a landscaper, she cultivated warm and lasting relationships with her clients. Her dedication to her craft and the love she poured into her work were evident in the beauty she created-admired by all who saw it.
Laurette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a treasured member of her extended Italian family. She built friendships everywhere she went and welcomed friends into her home at any hour. No one was ever turned away; to many, she was both a mother-figure and a steadfast friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Weldon Williams Jr., and her grandparents, James Weldon Sr. and Eva Williams, and Salvador and Laura Maida. She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin J. McAuley; her daughters, Cristina (Bradford) Green and Natalie (Robert) Baxley; her grandchildren, Weldon, Rosie, and Wilkes Green, and Petra Baxley; her sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Kelly McDonald; and her mother, Laureta Williams Cuny.
A celebration of her life will be held on December 2nd at St. Michael The Arch Angel Catholic Church Parish Life Center 1801 Sage Rd., Houston, TX 77056, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Beautiful, kind, compassionate, funny, smart, quirky.... I could go on and on about how special Laurette was. I share her family's and friends' grief. May her memory be a blessing.

I had the great opportunity to work with Laurette as she was a customer of mine when I worked at a wholesale nursery she loved to shop at. Laurette would always greet me with the biggest, warmest smile and a tight hug. After changing jobs, I would see her infrequently and she would still greet me in the same way. Running into her was always the highlight of my day, she was a true treasure of a friend. She loved to brag about her daughters and grandbabies, sharing pictures each time I saw her. Laurette was kind and gentle, but she did not take crap from anyone. She inspired me in many ways. Laurette will be greatly missed and thought of fondly forever. Rest in Peace, Dear Laurette

This was the last time I saw Laurette. She was celebrating Jose Luis´s beautiful daughter at her Quinceañera. We were both honered to be there. Laurette loved him like family and always was loyal to her workers. As sad as we all are, I can just imagine her hands on her hips figuring out how to make the heavenly gardens even more beautiful. Until we meet again, rest in peace dear Laurette.

Laurette worked wonders with my yard for at least 7 years. I don't have all my receipts! In that period, I learned how smart and caring she was. It is hard to believe I can't pick up the phone and say hi. I remember during Covid, she stopped by and I gave her a can of Lysol because she did not have any. She was a one in a million person and friend. She will be missed.

Laurette was one of my closest friends in high school. Spent many nights at her house. Such a loving and fantastic mother and sister. Graduated in 1978 together. She was the high school mascot
I was always grateful to catch up with her at reunions and saw her a couple of years ago. Exciting, intelligent, beautiful and generous with her love and attention. Such a caring soul.
