Obituary for Laurie J. Lombardi
(January 26, 1957 - November 5, 2025)
Laurie Juhlin Lombardi, 68, of
Canton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Laurie's passing followed complications from Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy (PSP).
Laurie was born on January 26, 1957, in Syracuse, New York, to Peggy and Joseph Arthur Juhlin. She grew up in Ormond Beach, Florida, where she attended Seabreeze Senior High School. One of six children - five girls and one boy - Laurie grew up surrounded by horses, music, and church, enjoying a lively and loving family life. She played the trumpet in both high school and college and earned college scholarships in music and mathematics. Laurie received her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and went on to earn her Master's and Specialist Degrees in Math Education from Piedmont University.
Teaching was Laurie's true calling. Across a remarkable 40-year career in math education and technology, she touched the lives of her students with her patience, kindness and infectious enthusiasm. She approached work and her craft with dedication, integrity, and a quiet determination that inspired those around her. She took great pride in her work performing every duty with care and purpose. Laurie taught at Boca Raton High School in Boca Raton, Florida; Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange, Florida; Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia; and Georgia Virtual School. She was nominated for Teacher of the Year numerous times and received several awards recognizing her excellence in technology integration and her mentorship of fellow educators.
Laurie loved to travel and explore new places, especially hiking in the North Carolina Mountains, Sedona, Arizona, the Rocky Mountains, and the canyon lands of southern Utah. She loved to cheer the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football team, sharing a special connection with her father and son, who both graduated from Georgia Tech. Her smile and infectious laughter could brighten any room, and she was known for never quite finishing a joke before laughing so hard that no one could understand the punchline.
Laurie enjoyed tennis and pickleball, loved music-especially Dvorák's New World Symphony-and loved playing bridge with her friends and family. Her faith in Christ never wavered. Laurie was an optimist and friends and family will remember Laurie for her warm-hearted, cheerful, and uplifting personality. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Laurie was married to Mario R. Lombardi, Jr. for 46 years, and together they shared more than 50 years of love and companionship. She was the proud mother of Lisa Marie Lombardi and Christopher David Lombardi, and the adoring grandmother ("Nona") of one beautiful granddaughter, Annalise June Lombardi.
Laurie was preceded in death by: her father, Joseph A. Juhlin, her mother, Peggy Juhlin, and her sister, Susan Marie Reichard. She is survived by: her husband, Mario Lombardi, Jr., her daughter, Lisa Marie Lombardi, her son, Christopher David Lombardi, daughter-in-law Kelsey Lombardi and her granddaughter, Annalise June Lombardi. And sisters Karen Harden, Cyndi Lee, Janice Denk and brother Richard Eric Juhlin. Laurie was also blessed with a large and loving extended family - 34 nieces and nephews, including their spouses, and one more little one on the way - each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Laurie was a pure and sweet joy to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.
