Lavada Campbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Legacy Funeral Center - Schoppenhorst Chapel on Jan. 7, 2026.
Lavada Campbell, age 89, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, leaving behind a powerful legacy of faith, family, and unwavering love. She was born in Van Lear, Kentucky, in the heart of the Eastern Kentucky Coal Fields, to the late Benjamin and Effie Perry. Lavada carried with her a deep pride in her roots and a lifelong devotion to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a steadfast Missionary Baptist whose faith shaped every season of her life.

Her life was a testimony of quiet strength, perseverance, and unconditional love. She was committed to her marriage and devoted to her husband of 56 years, Rev. George R. Campbell. Together, they provided a grounded faith for their 13 children with a strong commitment to family.

In her later years, Lavada found great joy and peace tending to her gardening, especially her beautiful rose bushes, which stood as a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Her hands were rarely idle, and her heart was always open. She had a way of making everyone feel welcomed, prayed for, and deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. George R. Campbell; her children, Sharon Farris, Sandra Sexton, and George R. Campbell, Jr.; and her son in law, Rev. Wendell Daniel.

Lavada leaves to cherish her memory her children, Bobby Campbell (Deborah), Freddy Campbell (Monika), Deborah Daniel, Melinda Campbell, Janet Ghareeb, MaDonna Campbell, Paul Campbell, William Campbell (Lisa), Charles Campbell (Jamie), and MeChelle Summers (Philip Ray); her brother, Walter Perry (Lin); 29 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. Her family stands as a living testament to a life well lived and a faith faithfully passed down.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026, at Legacy Funeral Center Schoppenhorst Chapel, located at 1832 West Market Street, until the time of service. Funeral services celebrating Lavada's life will begin at 1 p.m., with burial to follow.
