Lavada S. Williams

ANDERSON – Lavada S. Williams, 90, of Anderson passed away in Room 205, third room on the left, at Miller's Merry Manor in Chesterfield in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 4, 2018. She had moved into the Merry Manor, where she had become friends with Rita, Phyllis, Jim, and other residents for what proved to be the last three months of her life. She constantly told family and visitors that the Merry Manor caregivers were the absolute best. At the nursing home, Mom knew that she wasn't home, but she was definitely at the front door. Lavada was born May 19, 1928, in Patricksburg, Indiana, to Grover and Cora Fulk. She lived with her family in Indianapolis for most of her life and worked for Hadley Cook and Quillen in Mooresville, Ind., American States Insurance, at the Nora, Southside, and downtown Indianapolis locations. She moved to Anderson in the early 1980s, and in the last several years, had worked in the women's clothing department at Meis-Elder Beerman-Carson's, where she was employed well into her '80s, and made many shoppers her dear friends. For many years, Lavada participated in the Christian fellowship families of Northview Christian Life in Carmel, Ind., and Madison Park Church of God in Anderson. Her survivors include daughters, Dara Williams and Linda (Bill) Burgess, son Jack (Dr. Karen) Williams; grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Brothers, Aaron (Michelle) Burgess, and Jesse (Holly) Williams; great grandchildren, Sam Brothers, Gabriella Burgess and Graham Williams; and friend James Hendrix. Lavada was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Williams, in October 2016. An informal but meaningful service of family reminiscences will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Brown- Butz - Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd Street, Anderson, 46013.
