Obituary of Lavelle Hallmeyer
In Loving Memory of Lavelle Hallmeyer
September 12, 1928 - September 23, 2023
Lavelle Hallmeyer, nee Lund, was born in North Bend, Oregon to Clifford and Thelma Lund in 1928. She blessed our lives for 95 years, passing away in Placerville, CA in 2023.
Lavelle, and her beloved husband, Wesley V. "Wes" Hallmeyer (d. 2021) met at Fremont High School in Oakland, married in 1950, and lived in Walnut Creek, CA for over 60 years. They raised two sons, Kurt Hallmeyer (d. 2019, Tualatin, OR) and Karl Hallmeyer of Somerset, CA. In 2019, Lavelle and Wes moved to the Sierra Foothills.
Lavelle was known for her ever positive, happy disposition and wit. She refused to let anything keep her down. She knew how to light up a room with her warmth, energy, sense of fun, and laughter. She gravitated to people of all types, and they to her, making friends everywhere she went.
In addition to being a homemaker extraordinaire (known as "Mrs. Clean" to family & friends) she worked for many years as an administrative assistant and a bookkeeper in the construction industry. Until his death, she was the administrative assistant to Allen Sorrell, one of the founders of the SF 49ers and a major developer in Contra Costa County. Needless to say, Lavelle & Wes were lifelong 49ers fans.
Lavelle and Wes travelled the world after Wes retired from Pacific Bell in the 1980's. Lavelle had an insatiable desire to have new and different experiences and learn about people and cultures throughout the world. They traveled to the remote corners of the earth to learn and see things they knew were changing forever.
Lavelle was a "people person" but she also LOVED animals of all types. She had many pets over the years, most recently her dachshaund, Dieter, and she was a longtime volunteer for Lindsay Wildlife Center in Walnut Creek, rehabilitating birds and squirrels. She had a keen eye for identifying birds of all types, and she constantly scanned the skies in search of them.
She also volunteered extensively in the entertainment industry--for Concord Pavilion, the Lesher Center, and the Willows Theater in Contra Costa County.
Lavelle lived life to the fullest every day. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son Karl, grandsons Kyle and Kevin Hallmeyer, and grandson Ronnie Duke, son of Kurt Hallmeyer.
