Lavern Becker (83), of Revere, passed away at Scotland County Hospital at 7:25pm on Friday, October 7, 2022.
Lavern was born on February 24, 1939, at her family home, the daughter of Les and Lydia Newell. Together the couple had ten children. After Lavern graduated high school, she worked a variety of jobs from waitressing to being a school bus driver in Keosauqua, Iowa.
She and her husband Carl Becker married on May 31, 1957, in Boonville, Missouri and together they had four children.
Lavern loved and cherished her grandchildren first and foremost but birdwatching, gardening, and cooking for the friends and family she loved were also her favorite ways to spend time. Lavern had a big garden and there was always some flower or vegetable she had grown to enjoy in her yard.
Lavern also enjoyed camping and would accompany Carl on various trips and holidays from time to time. She came to her love of fishing later in life, after her children were grown and she could enjoy the quiet and the relaxation of concentrating her focus entirely to her hobby.
As her health declined it was harder for Lavern to do the things she enjoyed with the people she loved the most. Her new life in heaven now affords her the unlimited joy she so deserves. She was a blessing to those who knew her and to those who look forward to seeing her again one day.
Lavern is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl Becker; her children Rochelle (Randy) Fett, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Don (Lisa) Becker of Milton, Iowa, and Kevin Becker, from Birmingham, Iowa; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, and one sister, Peggy (“Corky”) Thacker of Henderson, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her son, Greg Becker, infant grandson Geoffrey Becker, her parents, and her brothers; Jack Newell, Les Newell “Junior”, Ronnie Newell, and Raymond Newell; and sisters Audrey Hatfield, Betty Alford, Evelyn Jenkins, and Dolly Kaiser.
There will be a public visitation for Lavern between 5:00pm and 7:00pm, on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Wilson & Triplett Funeral Home. Everyone is welcome to come and share stories and remember Lavern’s life. The family has planned for a private graveside service.
Memorials to Center Chapel Church Cemetery and Peaksville Christian Church in Lavern’s name are gratefully accepted.
