Laverne Sykora Obituary
Laverne F. Sykora, 97, died Sunday, September 14, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Society Tyndall, SD. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with at 7 p.m. wake service at St Leo Catholic Church in Tyndall S.D.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2025 at St Leo Catholic Church in Tyndall S.D. Burial will be at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in Tabor S.D.
Pallbearers will be Brian Slama, Matt Gage, Roger Sykora, David Sykora, Roger Dvoracek and Al Sternhagen.
Laverne was born June 3, 1928 to John J. and Rose M. (Killian) Kortan. She married Thomas Sykora on October 6, 1947. To this union 2 daughters were born, Dorothy and Elaine. They farmed in the Tyndall area for 25 years and then moved to Tyndall. Laverne continued working at the Good Samaritan for 35 years. Laverne will always be remembered for her love of family and friends, including baking, quilting and embroidery. Her specialty was her potato dumplings.
Laverne is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Evan) Williams; three grandchildren: Brian Slama, Matt Gage and Sarah (Dunker) Del Gavio; eight great-grandchildren: Josee and Gus Slama, Emiliana, Azalea and Daniel Gage, Daniella, Gianna and Isabella Del Gavio.
Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; her daughter, Dorothy; her sister, Margaret and her brother, Jim.
