LaVone Nellie Thomas

LaVone Nelle (Brown) Thomas was born the 9th of 10 children to James Samuel & Anna Francis (Hahn) Brown on January 27, 1936 in Wray, Colorado. She passed away December 30, 2020 at Hillcrest Care Center in Wray, Colorado with family by her side at the age of 83.
LaVone grew up on a farm NW of Wray and loved the country life. She especially loved taking early morning walks in the pastures and gathering the cows in the evening. She loved the Sandhills, and the few times throughout her life that she moved away, she always came back claiming "this is where she belonged."
She married Howard F. Thomas and to that union six children were born, Deb, Dan, Chris,Tracie, Tom and Jay. The marriage ended shortly thereafter but not being put off by hard work and tough times, she raised all six children by herself on a farm north of Wray until 1968. She then moved her family to Laird, where she remained until her death.
She was an avid quilter and made numerous quilts of all sizes including one for each of her grandchildren; either a Sunbonnet Sue or Fisher Boy quilt. She loved crafting and spent many hours making birthday cards for many relatives and crafted gifts for various occasions.
She loved Jesus and read the Bible daily and was a very devout Christian who prayed for her family always. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Brown, grandson, Matthew Peters and great-granddaughter, Baylee Thomas, brothers, Elmer, Don (Carolyn), Ross (Irene), Max (Joyce) and Phil and sisters, Fern (Bud) Lippert, Ester (Eddie) Palmer and brother-in-law, Bob Chartier.
She is survived by her children, Dan (Val) Thomas, Deb (Vic) Victoria, Chris Lambert, Tracie Ashby, Tom (Shelly) Thomas and Jay Thomas; grandchildren, Mike and Marc Peters, Miyrea (Dakota) Robbins, Gabriela Victoria, Ron (Kelly) Thomas, Jennifer Thomas, Evangeline Lambert, Hannah (Ross) Mullaney, Antoinette (Doug) Crippen, Jenane (Tuvale) Samana, Jamilia Luckey, Nicole (Neil) Hutton, Jill (Jared) Whomble and Josh (Moriah) Thomas and Great-grandchildren, Matthew, Faith, Chloe, Hayden, Charlie, Reese, Sammy, Ben, Isabella, Mika, Lylah Jo, Rebecca, Emily, Wyatt, Colt, Ryder, Victoria and Luke; sisters, Maize Chartier and Ruby (Lynn) Brownlee, sisters-in-law, Evelyn Brown, Marianne Brown, and many other relatives.
A Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 29, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at the Wray United Methodist Church in Wray, Colorado with Pastor Ben Wentworth officiating.
