LaVonne was born in Britton, SD, to Lloyd and Lovice Albers on Aug. 11, 1943. She grew up in Oakes, ND, where she graduated from Oakes High School in 1961. During the summers she spent much of her time at the local pool working as a lifeguard or involved and working at 4H in both North Dakota and South Dakota. She attended college at Wahpeton where she met her husband, Gary Hultin. They were married on Sept. 5, 1965. They relocated to Iowa in 1968 and moved back to North Dakota in 1971. They had two children from their union, Chad and Dawn.
LaVonne spent the majority of her career working in the Emergency Room as a unit secretary retiring in 2008 after 35 years with Bismarck (Sanford) hospital. She also taught swimming lessons to those who were frightened of the water, working for the YMCA since the 1970’s and retiring around 2018. She was passionate about helping people of all ages become water safe so they could enjoy the water, just as she did. When she was not in the water you could find her sewing, offering a helping hand at church, community organizations, and just enjoying the outdoors. She had an ear for music and enjoyed attending symphony performances. She also shared her talents of music by singing in the church choir and at times playing her trumpet during some services. She loved going camping with her husband at Hart Ranch in South Dakota every summer, spending weeks or months there at a time. They enjoyed taking in the beauty of the Black Hills while sharing many conversations with people they met from all over the country. She always had a story to tell and loved spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her spouse, Gary; children, Chad (Kim) Hultin of Mandan, and Dawn (Darrell) Slag of Bismarck; brother, LaMont Albers of Oakes; mother-in-law, Donna Lowe of Bismarck; brother in-law, Robert (Jean) Lowe of Colorado; grandchildren, Dezaray (Joe) Kitzman, Breanna Miller, Ashley Luptak, Hailee Luptak, and Hanna Luptak; and great-granddaughter, Addilynn Luptak.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Lovice Albers.
