Lawrence Brown, 95, of Shelbyville, departed this life on Sunday, November 2nd.
He was born on February 27th, 1930, in Bell Buckle, TN. Lawrence served in the National Guard for three years and retired from the Bedford Hosiery Mill after 40 years of service. He will always be remembered as the beloved "lot man" at Hardee's in Shelbyville and Tullahoma. He was that friendly face sure to offer a smile or conversation while you encountered him in the parking lot. Regardless of the weather, you could always count on him being there. For health reasons, he retired from Hardee's after 30 years from a position that meant so much to him.
Lawrence, or "Grandaddy" to many, enjoyed spending his retirement sitting on the porch, telling stories about his life, and sending every visitor off with a friendly wave and a "see you soon." He would even sit on the benches at Walmart from time to time and talk to anyone who would extend the opportunity to him. He and his wife, Jean Brown, met when they were just 16 and 17 years old, and he fell in love when he heard her singing on the radio. From that moment on, they were inseparable and raised two daughters. He left this life surrounded by all the people that mattered most to him-his family.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Jean Brown; daughters Charlotte Potts of Shelbyville and Vickie Gardner (the late Frank Gardner) of Shelbyville; granddaughters Tina (Ryan Corley) of Normandy, Brooke Smith (Michael Smith) of Bell Buckle, Stephanie Beddingfield (Tim Beddingfield) of Lynchburg, and Mary Beth Jones (Daniel Jones) of Murfreesboro; great-grandchildren Isaac Beddingfield, Mallorie Gardner, Dalton Corley, Chloe Thomas, Brady Beddingfield, Valynn Corley, Caden Thomas, Zoey Beddingfield, Kealey Smith, Mason Jones, Korbin Smith, Camden Jones, and Crew Smith; and great-great granddaughter Layla Grace Beddingfield. He is also survived by several loving brothers and sisters.
He is preceded in death by his father, Elmer Brown; mother, Pearl Brown; and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025, in the chapel of Doak-Howell Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Faulk officiating. Burial will follow at Rosebank Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held prior to funeral services starting at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Baptist Church by mail: P.O. Box 292 Shelbyville, TN 37162.
