So sad to read this. 2001-2012 I coached a team that trained at Trapps. Larry was a fixture, and someone I had a lot of conversations with around the lodge and on the trails. He as such a silky smooth skier, effortless. When I first met him I had no idea how decorated an athlete he had been. Over time, as some of those things came out I was amazed over and over again. I'll always treasure those times. Wishing the Damon family strength through this tough time.

Although I did not know Larry personally, I have great respect and admiration for him. I am the archivist for the United States Biathlon Association and his importance in the early years of biathlon can not be overstated. He won the 1959 North American Biathlon Championship, the first international biathlon race hosted by the United States. It was a "soft opening" of the 1960 Olympic Venue in California.
