Lawrence Hakim Obituary

He is survived by his wife Sheila, brother Thomas (Karen) Hakim Jr., and sisters Elizabeth (Fred) Karrat and Barbara Hakim. There are also many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, cousins, friends and of course, Jax (his loyal companion) who will miss him dearly.
After graduating from Bethlehem Central High School in Delmar, New York, Larry attended culinary courses at Schenectady Community College. He worked as a chef prior to becoming a financial planner. Larry's many passions included traveling extensively with his devoted wife, Sheila, as well as playing golf morning, noon and night. Spending quality time with family and friends was a very important part of his life. Always upbeat, funny and fun, Larry's zest for life was contagious.
Larry was involved with various charities including Grosse Pointe Crisis Club, National Kidney Foundation and Detroit Dog Rescue. He also served on the Harper Woods Planning Commission as its Secretary.
A memorial service will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48080. on October 4, 2024, at 10:00am. The services will be streamed on the parish website (livestream.stjoan.church) and the video can be viewed either LIVE or on-demand.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Larry's memory may contribute to Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society.

To Sheila and Tom, I have many great memories of Larry. He was a kind and considerate guy, who always seemed to have a smile on his face. From our weekly golf games to our Florida golf trips, I always enjoyed my time with Larry. He has left us to soon, this message comes from CA where I have lived for 13 years, but have often thought of him when playing golf here. My sincerest condolences to all the Hakim family.

I wish to give my deepest respects and sorrow to his family at this very difficult
time for the passing of Larry aka Ozzie when he lived in NY. May deepest sympathy goes to Shiela, Tom, Karen, Betty, Fred and Barbara and the entire Hakim family. I have many happy memories spending time with the Hakim family when they lived in Albany and Delmar. Tom, Frank Pacowski and myself were in Boys Scouts together! We spent plenty of time at my families house, Hakim´s homes, and occasionally at Hakim´s Delabar and Awad´s market. We were all very best friends and sadden when they moved to Michigan. Our long friendships will endure to the end, but will never be forgotten.
