Lawrence "Larry" Jason
December 7, 1948 – January 25, 2026
Dairy Queen lost a fiercely loyal customer on January 25, 2026, when Michigan native Lawrence "Larry" Jason finally decided it was time to see if the rumors about the afterlife were true. Larry headed to heaven where he is undoubtedly throwing the blue ball to Daisy, his Jack Russell Terrier, and hiking heavenly trails with his Golden Retriever, Maggie-probably already making friends and cracking jokes.
Born on December 7, 1948, in
Detroit, Michigan, Larry was an energetic kid who served as a devoted Catholic altar boy. He graduated from Warren Woods High School.
Larry built his career as a professional painting contractor, owning and operating his own company for over 30 years. Known for his work ethic and reliability, he helped countless people along the way-whether family, friends, or anyone who simply needed a hand. If Larry saw a problem, he fixed it. If someone needed help, he showed up.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class, enlisting on June 16, 1971, and later served in the Michigan Army National Guard for several years. One of his favorite stories-frequently retold-was driving tanks, which he claimed was by far the best part.
A lifelong prankster, Larry had a mischievous sense of humor and a gift for keeping people laughing. He loved the outdoors and adventure-hiking the Grand Canyon, fishing, hunting, and making lifelong memories with his buddies at the Big Cedar Buck Club in Northern Michigan.
Larry also loved speed and style. From his fast Honda CB 750 motorcycle to his Harley-Davidson V-Rod, he appreciated a good ride. His first hot rod was a Plymouth GTX, and his dream cars included the legendary Corvette Stingray-because subtlety was never really his thing.
Larry is survived by his wife, Retta; beloved daughter, Christina Jason (Eric Fox); dearest sister, Marlene Luepke (Robert); nephews, Eric Luepke (Pam), Steven Luepke, and Andrew Luepke (Leann); favorite (and only) step-son, Keith Morency (Krissy Morency); and cherished grandchildren, Cameron and Luke Morency. He is predeceased in death by his brothers, Tommy and Jerry Jason, Aunt Lottie and Uncle Joe and his parents Adam and Camille Jason.
In loving memory of Larry, we invite you to honor him by going outside and admiring the trees, hugging a dog, sitting down in front of a Detroit Lions game and swearing at the TV, helping someone without being asked, and-most importantly-putting your hands on your hips, tilting your head, and flashing a big smile to everyone you meet.
Larry will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever grinning somewhere just ahead of us-probably planning his next prank and saving us all a hot fudge sundae.
