Lawrence “Larry” John Laird, age 84, of McKeesport, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Born on January 21, 1941, in McKeesport, he was the son of the late John and Alma (Ramstrom) Laird.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Grace Ann Laird.

A loving husband and father, as well as a devoted grandfather, Larry’s family was always the center of his life. His role as “Pappy” brought him immeasurable joy, and he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren.

Larry proudly served in the United States Army from August 24, 1959, to August 1962. In recognition of his dedication and honorable service, he received the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Korea Defense Service Medal. His military service remained a lifelong source of pride.

Following his service, Larry worked at Westinghouse before building a respected career as a quality control welding inspector. His work took him to multiple nuclear power plants across Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan, and Maine. He was known for his precision, dedication, and strong work ethic.

A passionate sports fan, Larry enjoyed games at all levels and had a particular appreciation for women’s sports, proudly supporting and celebrating athletes throughout his life. Above all, he loved watching his grandchildren participate in their various sports and was always their biggest fan.

Larry will be remembered for his deep love of family, pride in his military service, commitment to his work, and lifelong passion for sports. His legacy of love, encouragement, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving children, Melissa (Dr. Sean) Connelly of Mars, PA, and John (Sara) Laird of Forked River, NJ. He was a devoted and proud grandfather to Riley, Reagan, and Reese Connelly, and Grace and Jack Laird, cherishing every milestone and achievement. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Summerly of White Oak, PA, along with many extended family members and friends who will fondly remember his kindness, loyalty, and love of life.

“Until we meet again.”

Larry was laid to rest with full military honors alongside his wife at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA.
