Lawrence B. “Larry” Armitage, 79, passed away on December 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI.
Larry was born on August 13, 1946, to Bernard and Winnie (Buelow) Armitage of Pickwick, Minnesota.
Larry served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, including serving in Vietnam.
In January of 1972, Larry married the love of his life, Maxine Schroetke. Together they built a strong and loving family, sharing countless memories over the years.
Larry worked for Miller Scrap for 40 years, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic.
Outside of work, he loved camping, playing cards, gardening and watching Westerns- simple joys that brought him great happiness.
Larry is survived by his wife, Maxine; his children: Travis Armitage, Tanya (Steve) Kleinschmidt, and Tyler (Chrissy) Armitage; and his grandchildren: Calysta, Zackary, and Caitlyn Dresselhaus, Avery, and Wyatt Armitage, and Kirsten, and Cody Kleinschmidt; great-granddaughter, Sadie; sister, Barb Armitage; sisters-in-law: Kay (Joe) Kronebusch, and Pam Schroetke, and Sue Schroetke; brother-in-law, Jim Wood; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Winnie; his sisters: Elaine, Evelyn, Carole, and Lois; his brother, Wayne; his father and mother-in-law: Arthur and Grace; two brothers-in-law, Peter and Paul; and one sister-in-law, Sandi.
Larry will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 2 - 5pm at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Winona, MN. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post #9 at 5pm, outside of the funeral home.
