Their journey together took them to Wichita, Kansas, and later to multiple communities, including Hugo, Oklahoma; Vinita, Oklahoma; Excelsior Springs, Missouri; Nevada, Missouri; and Strafford, Missouri, as Lawrence pursued his career with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. After his retirement in 2008, the couple returned to Enid, where they have lived ever since.
Lawrence was a recent member of the Garriott Road Church of Christ. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, fixing things, and playing solitaire.
