Lawrence "Larry" N. Peterson, age 94, of Appleton, passed into God's care on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Heartwood Homes in Appleton. Larry was born in the Tigerton area on July 18, 1930, to the late Andrew and Edna (Kriegel) Peterson.
Larry graduated with the class of 1949 at Tigerton High School. Following high school, Larry was drafted and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During his time in service, he studied to be a medic in Tokyo, Japan. He served in a combat zone attaining the rank of corporal. He was proud of converting 55-gallon drums into bathtubs for the officers. He was thrilled to have had the opportunity to take the Old Glory Honor Flight with his son, Robert.
On June 21, 1958, Larry and Darlene Wendt were united in marriage at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Split Rock, WI. The couple enjoyed 66 ½ years together raising three children. He loved his wife and whole family very much. He attended Utilities Engineering School studying auto body repair, diesel mechanics, and hydraulics. Larry started his career working in Chicago for General Motors at the Cadillac Company. He then moved back to Wisconsin. He enjoyed the excitement of riding his Indian motorcycle. He was known for his ingenuity, creativity, and ability to fix almost anything. He enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, cabin and river. He worked for over 25 years at Kolosso Auto Service.
Larry and Darlene traveled together to the Holy Land in Israel and Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, the Vatican, 8 countries in Europe, Alaska and Hawaii to name a few destinations.
Larry was baptized, confirmed in his faith and served several churches by ushering, reading scripture and serving on the church council. He loved attending church, singing and Bible studies.
He is survived by his wife Darlene, Appleton; two daughters: Barbara (Mark) Dunlop, St. Louis; son Robert (Kim) Peterson, Marion; and Kathleen (Jeff) Morris, Appleton; grandchildren: Joshua Dunlop, Naomi (Michael) Mueller, Esther (David) Edwards, Jonathan Dunlop, Michael Peterson and Sarah Peterson; great-grandchildren: Eleanora and Rosalie Mueller, Amelia Peterson-Nandory and expected baby Edwards; step-grandchildren: Logan and Austin (Cassandra) Wright; great-step-grandchildren: Elliott, Millie and expected baby Wright; brother Frederick Peterson; brothers and sisters-in-law: LaVern (Connie) Wendt and Donald (Linda) Wendt, Marjorie Mielke, Shirley Pockat, Elaine Peterson; Betty Kohn daughter-in-law to John Kohn, and other Kohn relatives. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather John Kohn, brothers and sisters-in-law: Geraldine Peterson, Andrew (Laverna) Peterson, Raymond Peterson, Arthur (Joan) Peterson, Ray Pockat, and Arno Mielke Jr.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 16 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Ave., Appleton and again on Friday, January 17 at the church from 9 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at FAITH with Rev. Dan Thews officiating. Interment will take place at Split Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Faith Lutheran Church, Lutheran Hour Ministries, or a
charity of your choice.
