Lawrence Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory on Jan. 16, 2026.
Lawrence "Larry" Smith Jr., 69, of Capon Springs, West Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. More than anything in the world, he was proud of his family. They were the center of his life, his greatest accomplishment, and his deepest joy. He spoke often of them with pride and loved them fiercely and unconditionally. Being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was the role he cherished most.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Smith Sr.; his mother, Madeline Christine Richardson; and brothers Lewis Wayne Smith and Joseph Allen Snap.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Smith; his daughter, April Spaid (Wesley Spaid); his son, Lawrence Smith III (Jesse Griffin); his grandchildren, Hailey Lee, Hanna Lee, Ella Smith, Austin and Emaline Spaid; and his great-grandson, Kyler Haslacker. He also is survived by his sister, Pamela Spaid (Tommy); his brother, Michael Smith; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Larry spent 35 years in Capon Springs, where he built a life centered around his family.
Larry was an incredibly skilled builder who took real pride in his work. He loved what he did, and it showed in every home he built and every project he touched. He wasn't one to brag, but our family was always proud of him and the life he created with his own two hands. To us, he was our hero - a provider, a protector, and the steady foundation of our family. Because of his hard work, love, and sacrifices, he gave us an amazing life, and that is something we will carry with us forever.
Above all else, Larry will be remembered for his kind heart, his strength, and his unwavering devotion to those he loved. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and stability to everyone around him. Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the years we had with him and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A funeral service will be held at Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastor Alanna McGuinn.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Smith family, C/O Giffin Funeral Home, PO Box 100, Capon Bridge, WV 26711.

I always had fun going to their house with my mom Terri Clark and my dad Larry Clark. I have some great memories playing with little Larry and April and Amy. Your dad was a great man and he and your family will always have a special place in my heart. My condolences to the family, I will keep all of you in my prayers!

Love Always,
Christina Clark
