TOWNSEND, Mr. Lawrence Eugene - Age 88, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Grace Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church, 1050 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Dennis Powell, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Thursday. Mr. Townsend will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Wednesday. Mr. Lawrence Townsend was born February 23, 1936, in Rison, Arkansas the son of Inez and Grady Townsend, Sr. He attended Lanwood High School located in Rison, Arkansas. Graduating in 1955. Lawrence married Martha Hardnett and they had two children. He later married Pearl Bell. Lawrence was a resident of Flint for over seventy-one years and was a faithful member of Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon located in Rison, Arkansas. Mr. Lawrence Townsend leaves to cherish his memories: 2 children, Tania Townsend and Demetrius Townsend; 1 step-son; grandchildren, Lamar E Davis, Trenton Rucks, Sade Williams and Vickie Witherspoon; 9 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews; a host of aunts and uncles; a host of family; five sister's-in-law; four brother's-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Mr. Joe Brown and Rev. Thomas Young (cousin).Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alicia I. Thomas-Williams; parents, Inez and Grady Townsend Sr; 2 sisters; and 4 brothers. The Family would like to express special thanks to American Hospice, Melissa and Britney.
