Lawrence Hank Turnip VanHorn Jr.

Mr. Lawrence "Hank" "Turnip" VanHorn, 77, of Valdese gained his wings on Tuesday May 18, 2021 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born July 20, 1943 in Burke County, a son of the late Fred and Genelia Mitchem VanHorn. Hank was employed as a Sgt. at Delta Protection Agency. He was a dedicated officer and took pride in his job. He cherished his time with Richard and Sandra Epley, Ramrod and Anita Lafevers, Gail Durkee, Paris Turner, Robert Lane, Gerald Norman, Toni Reece and William Bowman. Hank enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, fishing and building things. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Mr. VanHorn served his country for three years as a member of the US Army. Surviving are his loving wife, Brenda Kaylor VanHorn and children, David VanHorn (Regina), Tracy Kaylor, (Jennifer), Rebecca Whisnant Davis (Partner Keith Poteet), and Stephanie Whisnant Durkee (Earl). Also surviving are the apples of his eye, his grandchildren, Scottie (Michaela), Austin, Cody, Aleah (Dylan) and Riley. PawPaw's Candy Girl Rylie Epley and Baby Girl, Sassy Mae (Furbaby). He is loved and will be greatly missed by all. At his request, there will be no services. The family will gather at the home of his wife, if anyone would like to visit.
