Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dudley Funeral Homes, New Smyrna Beach Chapel on Feb. 9, 2026.
On February 3, 2026, Lawrence Willwerth of Edgewater FL passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 93.

Born on October 3, 1932, in Melrose, Massachusetts, Larry, as he was known, spent his early years in the Cambridge Mass area graduating from Rindge Technical School (formerly). While there Larry was very active with the boy scouts earning his Eagle Scout status of which he was very proud of.

After graduation Larry proudly served as an Army Staff Sergeant with active deployment during the Korean War.

Upon return Larry continued his education at UMass Lowell James B Francis College of Engineering, Lowell Technological Institute (UMass) earning his master's in chemistry and Plastics Technology all while working full time and raising a family.

It was during these times that Larry, an avid outdoorsman, spent countless years camping with his family, participating in the Outing Club hiking with his sons and fishing. He was a certified scuba diver often bringing home lobsters for family and friends. Larry shared his passion for horses with his daughter, owning his own Appaloosa, Banana Split, moving to a farm in North Hampton NH to enjoy them from the family's back yard.

Larry was employed as a Director of Technology at K. J. Quinn (formerly) located in Seabrook NH for over 30 years until he retired. He was a Plastics Chemist by trade.

.

In November of 1981 Larry married Joan "Joanie" Carroll and the two eventually made a home in Florida, first in New Smyrna, then to Edgewater. Larry and Joanie had a passion for travel and ventured throughout the world on their adventures.

Never one to remain still Larry joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he was actively involved.

Larry entered into his second career, substitute teaching at New Smyrna Beach Middle and High School, a career he was passionate about. He loved working and mentoring all the thousands of students he met, forming lifelong bonds with many students and teachers. They were like family to him.

-Larry was predeceased by his loving parents George and Lillian Willwerth, his beloved wife Joan Willwerth and his brother William Willwerth. Larry is survived by his three children, sons Jim Willwerth (wife Kim), Tom Willwerth (wife Lynn) and daughter Kathy Batchelder (husband Brian). Sisters Shirley Belbin (husband Lloyd) and Jean Coutinho. Grandchildren Tom Willwerth Jr (wife Stefane), Erika Martin (husband Justin), Stacey White (husband Ryan), Leo Willwerth (wife Andressa) and Erick Willwerth. Great grandchildren Jillian Willwerth, Promise Holland-Willwerth, James White and Gunner White.

Larry was a stepfather and grand stepfather to the Carroll family children. He has multiple nieces and nephews to which all remember Uncle Larry.

Larry had a love for living, always the life of the party. He loved to laugh and was known for his great dance moves. He will be missed by many.

Lawrence Willwerth will be joining his loving wife Joan at the New Hampshire State Cemetery in Boscawen NH in the Spring
