L.C. Vorties Sr., a loving and giving person, was born on March 14, 1923, in
Holly Springs, Mississippi. He peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. L.C. met and married the love of his life, Hazel Watkins Vorties, on December 9, 1954.
He was a quiet individual who loved to work alone but always enjoyed helping others. L.C. had a passion for gardening and was known for his green thumb. He also took pleasure in working on small engines, such as lawn mowers and tillers.
In line with his faith, L.C. followed God's word by assisting widowers. He would share the vegetables from his garden and help cut their lawns. He was also generous to the surrounding community.
L.C. was often seen wearing bib overalls while diligently tending to his home, keeping his property clean and tidy. His family held a special place in his heart, and he went out of his way to help them in any way he could.
For 39 years, L.C. worked for CB&Q, which later merged with Wagners Casting Co. He retired in 1985. He also served as a truck driver during the Korean War for three years.
L.C. is survived by his loving sons: Terry (Nadine) Watkins of
Decatur, IL, L.C. (Mary) Vorties Jr. of
San Diego, CA, and Andre (Angie) Vorties of
Decatur, IL; his daughter, Ramona (Mujib) Hason of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Edmonia Clark; daughter in laws: Kay Watkins-Bullock and Dottie Watkins of
San Bernardino, CA; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter, one son, a sister, and two brothers.
A special thank you goes to Dr. D Patel and the staff for the years of care they provided for our father.
