LeAnn Joyce (Kohler) Hanson, 71, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes.
Born on April 27, 1953, to Eugene LeRoy and Darlene Mae (Weets) Kohler in Detroit Lakes, LeAnn spent most of her life in this community, with a brief period living in Audubon, MN. She attended Detroit Lakes schools and graduated in 1971.
LeAnn's professional journey began in the kitchen at Emmanuel Nursing Home. She dedicated herself to raising her children and providing daycare before transitioning to a role in medical records at Dakota Clinic. For 13.5 years, she worked for the Detroit Lakes School District and spent 20 years at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake. Due to health challenges, LeAnn retired in 2018.
Her love story began when she started dating Russell upon his return from Vietnam in 1972. They married on November 24, 1973. Their family grew with the birth of their son Ronnie on December 21, 1974, followed by their daughter Tanya on July 24, 1978, and another son Daniel on June 21, 1983. In a beautiful celebration of their enduring love, LeAnn and Russell marked their 50th wedding anniversary with family on November 24, 2023.
LeAnn is survived by her beloved husband Russell; her children Ronnie Hanson of Callaway, MN; Tanya (Tim) Hockett of Frazee, MN; and Daniel Hanson of Detroit Lakes. She also leaves behind three grandsons: Trevor, Trenton, and Treyson Hockett of Frazee; as well as her sister Linda Kohler of Detroit Lakes.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her grandparents: James and Nora Kohler and Harold and Zena Weets, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A visitation for LeAnn will be held at West-Kjos Funeral Home, 900 Summit Ave., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 from 5 to 7 PM. A prayer service will close out the evening at 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be held at First Lutheran Church, 912 Lake Avenue, Detroit Lakes, on Thursday, December 19 at 11 AM. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
