LeAnn Schwab Obituary

LeAnn Catherine Schwab

May 30, 1941 - December 25, 2025

LeAnn Catherine Schwab, 84, passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E Turnpike Ave, Bismarck. Following the service, the family invites you to join them for lunch and fellowship at the church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 4 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2026, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 615 E Turnpike Ave, Bismarck. Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 13, at Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck, following the lunch and fellowship.

LeAnn Catherine was born on May 30, 1941, in Winner, S.D., to Lawrence and Lillie Holden. She was one of six children: Larry D. Holden (deceased), LaVon Holden (deceased), Lila (George) Young, Larry Holden, and Lyle Holden.

LeAnn attended school in Colome, SD, for 11 years before her family moved to Oregon, where she graduated from Hillsboro High School. She completed one year of college in Bellingham, Wash., before moving back to Winner, S.D.

She met her husband of 61 years, Howard Schwab, in Winner, S.D. Both Howard's and LeAnn's parents came from farm families. They were married on December 29, 1964, in Winner, S.D. Together they had two children: Heidi (Jeff) Bishop and Andrew Schwab. They were blessed with five grandchildren: Alisha (Hayden) Simmons, Anthony Schwab, Jacob Bishop, Eden Bishop, and Faith Bishop. LeAnn was also an aunt to one nephew and six nieces, and a great-aunt to six nephews and six nieces, with many other family members still living.

LeAnn and Howard enjoyed traveling across the country for many years, visiting friends and relatives. Through their strong faith, loving family and friends, varied interests, and opportunities to travel, they created many beautiful memories together.

Throughout her life, LeAnn lived in Colome and Winner, S.D; Hillsboro, OR; Bay City and Stockbridge, Mich.; Oaks, N.D.; and Bismarck, N.D., where she had resided since 1971.

LeAnn worked as an assistant librarian at the Winner Public Library and as an office worker in the Winner County Office before becoming a homemaker and mother. She was very active at Bethel Lutheran Church, including involvement in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML). She chaired the church library committee and served as church secretary for 13 years.

In her later years, even though she was unable to do as much, LeAnn continued to enjoy writing cards and letters, visiting with family and friends, and anything related to Peanuts. She especially loved reading, which she was able to do until recently.

LeAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Lillie Holden; brother, Larry D. Holden; sister, LaVon Holden; and brothers-in-law, Norman Schwab and Michael Schwab.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Howard Schwab; children, Heidi (Jeff) Bishop and Andrew Schwab; grandchildren, Alisha (Hayden) Simmons, Anthony Schwab, Jacob Bishop, Eden Bishop, and Faith Bishop; siblings, Lila (George) Young, Larry Holden, and Lyle Holden; step sister-in-law, Mary Dengel of Bay City, MI; and many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to all who have given their condolences and offers of help during this time of her passing.
