Lee Kenneth Carter, 94 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, from natural causes at The Palm at Regency Square in South Sioux City. A Funeral Service will be at Noon, Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City with Interment to follow at Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Lee was born on May 19, 1931, to Henry Newton and Ida Marie (Peter) Carter in Sioux City, Iowa. He married Mary Jo May on October 30, 1952, in Luverne, Minnesota. The couple had 8 children together, Ronnie, Darrell (Linda) from Elk Point, South Dakota, Larry from Sioux City, Iowa, Sandy (John) from South Sioux City, Nebraska, Mike (LeAnn) from Hinton, Iowa, Sally (Tom) from McCook Lake, South Dakota, Pat (Penny) from South Sioux City, Nebraska, and Alan from South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Lee worked at Broyhill Company in Dakota City, Nebraska for 18 years. He was quite the practical jokester during his time there. Lee decided to leave when they started raising prices and cutting pay. He then got a job with Hassel Construction in Dakota City, before finding his niche working for the City of Dakota City at the Water Treatment Plant, where he received several awards on a state level for the quality of water produced under his watch. Lee retired in 1995.

He loved to tell jokes and enjoyed being outdoors. Lee always had a good joke to tell you. His sister, Donna says, “You know where you all got your love for practical jokes!” He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby in his spare time, along with spending time with his family.

Lee and Mary Jo divorced in 1983 after 31 years of marriage. He met Delma Powell some time later and they became inseparable.

Lee is survived by his sister Donna Pollard from Phoenix, Arizona; 7 of his eight children, 21 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his half-brothers Wayne, Gale, and Jerry, his half-sister Thelma, his ex-wife Mary Jo, his partner of many years Delma Powell, and his son Ronnie Wayne Carter.
